The Big Give SA
A major fundraising effort in South Central Texas is “The Big Give”. Non-profit
organizations pay a fee to participate in this online event, which brings a great deal of
awareness to the non-profit community. The incentive for participation is the potential
for prize money based on the total raised. SAYL has elected to participate in this effort
this year and I will be working with the SAYL Director of Communications on this
project.
In researching this process, I have learned about peer-to-peer fundraising. In this
method of fundraising, an organization or individual recruits supporters to also function
as fundraisers. Last year, SAYL was able to raise approximately $9,000 utilizing peer-
to-peer fundraising and a social media marketing campaign. It is evident to me that
encouraging this type of participation requires communication that clearly shows the
value of casting this wide net of fundraisers, as the workload is significant both in terms
of outreach and administrative paperwork.
