We recently received very good news! Better World Books, with is an international
bookseller is shipping us 40,000 free children’s books! This required a major effort to
recruit Book Buddies to assist with sorting all of these books. Some have been
transferred to the SAYL office for distribution to the Reading Buddy students (each
student will receive 3 free books selected by their volunteer Reading Buddy).
CPS Energy donated tote bags into which we included information for the students on
nearby libraries, which will have summer reading programs. Boxes of donated books
are then distributed, along with the tote bags, to the participating schools. Reading
Buddies will select 3 books or each of their students to be included in the tote bag. This
will make for a very nice end-of-year gift to the students.
